Quiz star Charles Ingram shocked at how 'realistic' show is at depicting Millionaire scandal

Charles Ingram has praised Quiz, which depicts the Who Wants To Be a Millionaire? cheating scandal that he was caught up in.

Taking to Twitter, Charles - who was dubbed the Coughing Major - revealed his shock at how realistic the sound quality is in the ITV drama.

Quiz shows the story of how Charles and his wife Diana Ingram were accused of cheating their way into his £1million win in 2001, with their alleged accomplice Tecwen Whittock coughing to help him choose the right answers.

Ingram said shows about the scandal normally use the stereo sound mix, which isolates the coughing to make it sound more prominent.

He tweeted: "The studio sound on #Quiz Episode 2 is much more lifelike than the composite tape played in court then broadcast around the world.

"#Quiz offers a more realistic sound like the recorded live stereo mix that is normally cut for broadcast.

"Why wasn't the stereo mix broadcast?"

Ingram then voiced his agreement with a follower who said TV producers "see what they want".

He said: "So true. An uncut broadcast compared to all the cut broadcasts gives a false 'see' impression.

"I know you realise but for the record it's the 'hear what they want!', that is much easier to disguise."

The Ingrams have always claimed they were innocent of all cheating claims.

In 2003 they were convicted of procuring the execution of a valuable security by deception.

They were both handed a suspended sentence and each fined £15,000 and ordered to pay £10,000 towards prosecution costs, which was later increased to £65,000.

*Quiz continues tonight at 9pm on ITV
