Quiz: Charles Ingram calls ITV drama 'terrifyingly accurate' and 'excruciatingly enjoyable'

Charles Ingram, the former army major who was accused of cheating on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, has given his verdict on the ITV drama Quiz.

In 2003, Ingram, his wife Diana and their alleged accomplice Tecwen Whittock were found guilty of conspiring to cheat on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? after producers noticed suspicious coughs from Whittock when correct answers were read out.

Quiz, which stars Matthew Macfadyen and Sian Clifford as the Ingrams, chronicles the event and subsequent court case.

Ingram has tweeted a lot of praise for Quiz since it began on Monday night (13 April), calling the show “terrifyingly accurate” and “excruciatingly enjoyable”.

He added that the “attention to detail is unnerving”, marvelling at how the producers found an exact replica of his and Diana’s bed and their old Honda.

On Macfadyen’s portrayal of him, Ingram said: “Matthew is so damn good-looking I can’t sleep. Trying to kid myself I looked like that 19 years ago but failing miserably. Diana called me ‘Matthew’ as I was brushing my teeth.”

He also applauded Clifford’s performance as Diana, calling it “simply incredible” and “perfect”.

Ingram did not, however, have anything positive to say about the real-life original host of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, Chris Tarrant, who he said “suffers from delusions of grandeur” in an extraordinary Twitter rant.
