When it comes to driving abroad, many Brits like to think they know their left from their right.
Until they roll off the ferry and sail past the first of many baffling signs with a blank expression and a mild sense of panic.
Now a poll of 2,000 UK drivers reveals we need to brush up our knowledge – or face on-the-spot police penalties.
“Drive with your arm outside in Spain, it’s an £85 fine,” says Katie Richardson of Al Fresco Holidays, which ran the survey. “Eating and driving in France can be £50. In Italy, the legal blood-alcohol limit is 0.05 per cent.”
A fifth of poll drivers flopped it.
