'Quite a rumble' - Bristol City player ratings after 2-1 loss against Aston Villa

Max O'Leary - 8

Good save to stop El Ghazi from range though lucky that Adomah didn't pocket the rebound. Outstanding save from Hourihane's header though and immense second half as he kept the Robins in the game. It was McGinn v O'Leary at times.

Conor Hourihane just loves scoring against Lee Johnson as Bristol City go down fighting at Aston Villa

Jack Hunt - 5

Quite a rumble with El Ghazi down City's right. Started slowly but grew into the battle, though lost his man at times in the second period, plus penalised for the penalty, harsh or not.

Tomas Kalas - 6

Just your usual terrific blocks and aerial challenges. Another day at the office for the consistent centre-back, although couldn't affect the crucial second goal.

Adam Webster - 6

Swept up at the back and kept it simple. Pushed into midfield later on but could do little to push City forward.

Jay Dasilva - 6

More great raids down the left for a player many are recognising as one of the best in his position in the league. Didn't receive the ball enough from his team-mates.

Marlon Pack - 5

Tough game against the wily Whelan and talented McGinn. Silly yellow card and lost a few too many individual duels.

Josh Brownhill - 6

Passing range was a little off target at first and not quite the usual energy throughout, though he did set up City's goal.

Niclas Eliasson - 7

Impish performance down the flank and should have an assist when he put it on a plate for Taylor to head at goal.

Matty Taylor - 6

Bad miss when heading Eliasson's cross wide but brought his usual hard running and obstinate hold-up play.

Andi Weimann - 5

Worked hard but little service came his way despite the offside goal. Was offside too many times.

Famara Diedhiou - 7

Work horse performance up front though struggled against the might of Jedinak a few times. Grabbed the goal that his recent displays deserved and a heck of a one it was.

Substitutes

Kasey Palmer - 6

Silky performance in the middle but wasn't able to create any real chances.

Nathan Baker - 6

Had a decent chance at the end of the game but couldn't hit the target.

Jamie Paterson - N/A

Got on for the last few minutes only.
