Quirky Edinburgh mansion with secret wine cellar is among 'most viewed' properties during lockdown

With the UK on lockdown and millions of workers now furloughed, people have been eyeing up dream homes online during the pandemic.

As reported by Wales Online, a lakeside home, a funky technology-inspired West Yorkshire house and mansion in Primrose Hill, have proved to be the most popular in the UK.

So, what is giving people here in Edinburgh serious property envy while they pass the time in boredom?

While it may not have the swimming pools or gadgets of homes elsewhere, this rather quirky mansion in the capital has been piquing people's interests.

The Old Parsonage as it is called is a five-bed detached house in Barton that, despite its distinct exterior, could be easily missed among the towering trees which keep it hidden.

But you can now have a sneak peek inside this historic home, which was built over 100 years ago, after it hit the market...for nothing short of a fortune.

Surrounded by lush woodlands and an acre of landscaped gardens, the "magnificent mansion" of over 4,500 sq. ft was originally built in an "Arts & Crafts-style" in 1901.

Though, the current owners refurbished the house in the early 1990s and it boasts a number of breath-taking period features - and some quirkier aspects, as well.

The sprawling ground floor includes huge entrance hallway, a family room, drawing room, kitchen, utility space, sun room and WC, while the second floor is where you will find all the bedrooms, as well as a shower room.

The next floor leads to an attic bigger than some people's flats and turret balcony fit for royalty. Elsewhere, there is also a garage and workshop space.

But one of the best parts of this property has to be the secret wine cellar, hidden deep within the basement of this mansion, it is a vino lovers dream.
