Quique Setien admits desire to coach Neymar as Barcelona transfer link gathers pace

Barcelona boss Quique Setien has admitted he "would be delighted" to coach Neymar, ramping up speculation of a move back to Camp Nou for the PSG star.

Setien also hailed transfer target Lautaro Martinez as "extraordinary", stating that the Inter Milan forward would "be very good" in his Barca side.

Neymar left Barcelona for Paris-Saint Germain in a £200million deal three years ago, but there has been increasing talk of the past year or so that the forward could be heading back to Catalonia.

The coronavirus pandemic has made that move less likely given the financial hit clubs have taken, with PSG likely to want at least 180m euros (£161m) for the 28-year-old, who is contracted to the club for another two years.

But that didn't stop Setien talking up the chances of a reunion between Brazil star Neymar and Barcelona.

The Spaniard said he had already had the honour of coaching one of the world's best players in Lionel Messi, and would welcome the chance to do the same with Neymar.

"Of course I would like to coach Neymar one day," said the Spaniard in an interview with BeIn Sports.

"Fortunately I have been able to fulfill one dream of coaching the best player in the world in Leo. What is to come next, we will wait and see but I’m sure I would be delighted. How would I not be?"

Setien has also been linked with Martinez, but gave little away on the subject of a move for the Argentina international.

"It’s clear that there are four or five players who play in that position that are extraordinary and that any of them could be at Barcelona," said the 61-year-old.

"He is a player who would be very good in this team, like other players of his level."

Another player Barcelona have been linked with is Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic.

Setien was again coy when asked about the Bosnian ace, but acknowledged he "could end up" at Barcelona.

"I’ve always said I like all top players, and as they are top players then it follows that they could end up at Barcelona," said Setien. "He is a great player like dozens of others."
