Quinnen Williams’ summer workouts aided by YouTube

No one can question rookie defensive tackle Quinnen Williams’ work ethic after what he said at Jets training camp on Friday.

Williams showed up one day late for training camp after signing his rookie contract on Thursday. Typically when players are away from their respective teams, they usually have a performance specialist that they work with. However, Williams tried a little something different in his workouts.

“I just worked out on my own,” Williams told reporters. “Not really much I can do. I can YouTube everything. I don’t really have to go pay like a superstar — a super performance dude. I can just do it. … you can’t take the performance coach with you. So YouTube a lot. I did a lot of stuff that we do here, over and over. I did a lot of conditioning. I ran track a lot.”

The 21-year-old was so antsy to get on the field with the rest of his Jets teammates that he worked out 18 hours a day just to get ready for the start of training camp. Clearly, his determination to make an instant impact is there.

All the working out has paid off for Williams He says his body feels better than it did in college. At Alabama, his weight hovered around 304 pounds. Entering training camp with the Jets, he’s at 295. His body fat also dropped from 20 percent to about 15 percent.

Williams may be 295 pounds, but he doesn’t play like he’s that big. He has a ton of speed for someone his size and the ability to chase down opposing quarterbacks.

The Jets are hoping he can do plenty of that moving forward. If Williams ever hits a wall, he can just YouTube his way out of his funk.
