If it wasn’t for the COVID-19 pandemic, Quinnen Williams would have been scheduled to appear in court on Thursday. That hearing, however, did not take place, according to the Daily News’ Manish Mehta.
Williams’ hearing for criminal possession of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon in Queens Criminal Court on Thursday was postponed. No new court date has been scheduled yet. Williams’ original court date was March 25, but that was also postponed due to the pandemic.
The 22-year-old was arrested on March 5 at LaGuardia Airport in Queens for carrying a handgun with an ammo clip. The gun was not loaded and there was no ammunition present, according to reports at the time.
Williams had a permit for his gun in the state of Alabama, but gun laws are much stricter in New York. You must have a New York license in order to carry a gun in the state.
Per ESPN’s Rich Cimini, Williams’ attorney expects the criminal charges to be dismissed.
Williams had a disappointing rookie season in New York after being taken with the third overall pick in 2019 NFL Draft out of Alabama. In 13 games, Williams recorded 28 total tackles, 2.5 sacks and one pass defense.
After battling injuries last season, Williams should get every opportunity in training camp to solidify a starting spot on the defensive line. He could, however, miss the start of the season if the NFL decides to discipline him for the airport incident.
