Quinn Industrial Holdings' bosses 'still at risk' despite death of man linked to Kevin Lunney torture

Bosses at Quinn Industrial Holdings are still at risk despite the death of a man linked to the kidnap and torture of a director, it has been claimed.

The warning was made as a postmortem was carried out yesterday on thug Cyril McGuinness, chief suspect in the terror and intimidation campaign.

He was also said to be involved in the brutal assault on Kevin Lunney.

The 54-year-old dropped dead during a police raid at a house in Derbyshire.

QIH director John McCartin yesterday said resolve is still needed to find the “paymaster” who financed McGuinness and his gang of thugs.

He told Miriam O’Callaghan on RTE: “There is still a lot of risk and there are indications this campaign is not over.

“None of us could imagine the level to which they would stoop. The lack of humanity that they have.”

Mr Lunney’s abductors are believed to have rung McGuinness as they worked through what the victim described as “a list of brutally specific orders”.

The raid on McGuinness’ Derbyshire bolt hole was one of 20 last Friday.

Gardai, the PSNI and Derbyshire Constabulary searched premises in Fermanagh, Dublin, Cavan, Longford and Derbyshire.

First reports suggested McGuinness suffered a massive heart attack.

During the raid, officers uncovered what they believe is a treasure trove of evidence.

Mr McCartin said he agreed with comments by Fine Gael TD and Junior Minister Michael D’Arcy about the resourcing of gardai in the border area.

He added: “We did have sustained attacks against us, there were incidents that were allowed to go unchecked, the incitement to hatred, the posters defaming us and face-to-face threats.”

The Garda Representative Association called on Mr D’Arcy to apologise for his comments on RTE where he said the violence and threats “should have been dealt with sooner and better”.
