Quinn Cook gives GOAT treatment to Sparks’ Chelsea Gray, remembers dad

With free agency exits and injury-related absences, Quinn Cook could have had a bigger role with the retooling Golden State Warriors in 2019-20. But instead of staying in the Bay Area, he decided to take his talents to sunny Southern California to play for the Los Angeles Lakers.

After agreeing to sign with the Lakers, Cook made it known that his choice was not a knock against the Warriors but a chance to play for what had been his father’s favorite team.

On Monday, the Los Angeles Sparks took to Twitter to celebrate Chelsea Gray — a two-way powerhouse of a guard who last week was named an All-Star starter. Cook retweeted with comment, slapping goat emojis on Chelsea Gray and remembering his father by writing, “RIP DAD!”

It appears Cook’s father’s love of L.A. basketball included the Sparks. Like father like son, Cook is cheering for his WNBA sister team and remembering his dad. When Cook takes the court for the Lakers in a few months, he will be fueled by the higher purpose of making his father proud. This bodes well for his teammates but not so much the rest of the league.

This is Chelsea Gray’s third-straight WNBA All-Star nod; she and the Sparks won the championship in 2016.
