Quiet South Dublin suburb issued chilling 'lock all your doors' warning after cash and goods stolen in house break-in

Residents of a quiet South Dublin suburb have issued a chilling warning to their neighbours to "lock all your doors" after cash and a number of items were stolen during an evening break-in.

A home on Walkinstown Avenue in Dublin 12 was targeted as thieves made off with money and household goods just after 6pm on Tuesday evening.

A local community Facebook group has had posts constantly asking locals, many of whom are elderly, to keep alert for burglars during the Christmas period.

And another post on Tuesday night confirming the robbery - and another attempted break-in on the same road - pleaded with residents to keep their doors closed and alarms on for their own safety, even if they are in their homes.

"One break in and another attempted break in on Walkinstown Avenue at 6pm this evening," the post read.

"Remember to lock all your doors and turn on the alarm even when you're in the house."

One local commented that people could well be keeping tabs on homes in the area, saying; "The little scrotes are watching the houses big time".

While another, who lives on nearby Beechfield Road, warned of "two weird fellows" knocking on doors and asking people if they needed any housework done.

"Two weird fellows knocking on all the doors here today too, asking is there anything we wanted doing. No van to see, no tools or bags either," they said.

"Moved pretty fast when they saw our 2 big dogs though!"

Gardai confirmed they are investigating the break-in.

They told Dublin Live: "Gardai are investigating an incident of burglary which occurred at a house on Walkinstown Avenue yesterday afternoon, 8 December 2020.

"An amount of cash and a number of items were taken from the premises.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
