Quickfire double sees Livingston climb off foot of Premiership table

Two goals in two first half minutes gave Livingston their second win of the season as they defeated St Johnstone 2-0 at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

An otherwise forgettable contest burst into life just after the half hour mark thanks to lone striker Scott Tiffoney.

The youngster was a constant menace to the Saints defence and proved to be the difference as he opened the scoring on 33 minutes before teeing up Alan Forrest barely a minute later - both composed finishes into the opposite corner.

The three points see Livingston jump into ninth place in the Premiership table.

The Lions made two changes to the side that has been edged out at Celtic Park the previous week.

Tiffoney retained his place as the lone striker while a switch to the usual back four saw Ciaron Brown drop to the bench.

Craig Sibbald was the other to miss out, with Forrest and Scott Robinson being recalled.

Jason Holt had the game's first decent chance when a throw-in was cleared by the Saints defence into his path on the edge of the box but he fired high and wide.

Both sides struggled to get a foothold in the game with the visitors not fashioning a chance until the 17th minute when a free-kick as headed on by former Lion Murray Davidson only for Stevie May to meekly poke over the bar.

The lacklustre start to the game was summed up midway through the first half when Craig Conway got into a decent position only to nearly clear blast his effort out of the stadium.

Moments later, Conway turned provider as Robby McCrorie made a smart instinctive close range after May got on the end of the winger's delivery.

The game swung dramatically in the home side's favour as they netted twice in a minute just after the half hour.

Nicky Devlin stole the ball from Michael O'Halloran after the Saints man failed to deal with McCrorie's long ball up the park. He teed up Tiffoney on the right who, after some composed passing inside the box, was teed up and eventually drove the ball across Zander Clark and into the net for his first goal of the season.

Barely a minute later, the young striker collected the ball on the left wing and played in Alan Forrest who saw his wonderful curling effort find the bottom corner beyond the diving Clark.

The Lions would masterfully manage the second half with St Johnstone struggling to threaten.

They could have got back into the game 18 minutes from time, though, when substitute Callum Hendry's effort went past McCrorie - but former Saints team-mate Holt was on hand to clear off the line.

The hosts would comfortably see out the remainder of the afternoon to clinch a valuable victory.
