Quicker and more frequent buses promised between Bulwell and Nottingham city centre

Nottingham City Transport is taking on new stops in Bulwell, promising quicker and more frequent buses.

Norwich Gardens, Squires Avenue and Sandhurst Road in Bulwell will be served by NCT's Yellow Line 70 bus from March 30.

These roads are currently served by Nottingham City Council's funded Local Link bus L14, which will be shortened to run between the city, Hyson Green, Heathfield Estate and Bulwell Bus Station from April 6.

Yellow Line 70 will continue to link the Norwich Gardens area with Bulwell Morrisons, Bulwell town centre and the city centre.

Buses will run every 30 minutes on Monday to Saturday daytimes compared to the current hourly L14 bus, with journeys to and from the city centre around 10 minutes quicker as Yellow Line 70 follows a more direct route between Bulwell and the city.

David Astill, NCT commercial and operations director, said: “Our Yellow Line 70 already operates between Bulwell Morrisons and Bulwell Town Centre and this re-route via Norwich Gardens can be achieved with no additional cost to NCT, whilst enabling our shareholder to reduce the cost of its subsidised bus service budget.

“We look forward to welcoming the residents of Norwich Gardens, Squires Avenue and Sandhurst Road on to their more frequent NCT bus service from the end of March”.

Hucknall Lane, which the Yellow Line 70 currently serves between Bulwell Morrisons and Bulwell Town Centre, will continue to be served by Yellow Line 71 and Turquoise Line 79/A, offering six buses per hour.

Councillor Adele Williams, portfolio holder for transport at Nottingham City Council, added: “I’m pleased that this new service will improve connectivity for residents in Bulwell, providing more frequent, faster and direct journeys."

Re-routing Yellow Line 70 to serve Norwich Gardens, Squires Avenue and Sandhurst Road allows Nottingham City Council to reduce the cost of subsiding its Link bus services, said NCT.
