Quick-thinking staff lockdown school following 'shooting' scare in North Dublin

Brilliant staff were quick to act after a scary 'shooting' scare near a North Dublin school on Monday.

Gardai responded to Poppintree where a loud bang was heard from an area known locally as 'The Hill' near St Joseph's School at around 3pm.

It was feared that a gun had gone off - however no evidence was found to suggest there was a shooting.

Staff at the school took no chances and held the kids behind and quickly text all parents to let them know of an "incident"

The text read: "There has been an incident near the school.

"We will be keeping the children in the school until we have been advised that it is safe for them to go home."

A garda spokesperson confirmed two officers responded to the scene but later deemed no shooting had taken place.

A spokeswoman said: "On foot of Gardaí receiving queries in relation to an alleged shooting, they attended Poppintree, Ballymun today and upon further investigation it was deemed no shooting had taken place."

Locals told Dublin Live how The Hill area has been an anti-social blackspot describing it as a "no-go area".

One said: "There's always trouble there, residents are sick. There's open drug dealing and fighting and we're scared someone will be hurt."

A parent said: "I was terrified when I got the text. I sprinted up the road straight away, thank god nobody is hurt."
