Quick-thinking Ryanair crew jump to action after passenger 'passed out' on Dublin Airport bound flight

Ryanair staff managed to avoid a medical emergency on a flight heading toward Dublin Airport on Thursday evening.

Flight FR1457 from Brussels to Dublin was in mid-flight when a passenger passed out and needed medical attention.

There was no doctor or medical staff on board, but the cabin crew quickly sprung into action to help the man.

Ronan Gingles was on board the flight when the incident happened and praised the quick-thinking by the cabin crew.

The flight managed to land safely back in Dublin with no delays.

He tweeted: "Great work by cabin crew on Ryanair FR1457 from Brussels to Dublin tonight.

"Passenger passed out mid-flight. Glazed eyes. Looked very serious. No doctors on board. They tended to him, reclined him and revived him without panic...Then back to the inflight service..."

Ronan told Dublin Live that the staff were "obviously well-trained" in how they handled the situation so professionally.

He said: "There was real concern about the man’s well-being. He looked to be in a very bad way - coma or worse.

"They (Valentina and a male colleague) just handled it very professionally. They brought him round again. Asked him necessary medical questions. Elevated his feet. Got his blood sugar level back up.

"All’s well that ends well. Obviously well-trained. Good to know."

A Ryanair spokeswoman wished the passenger all the best in his recovery telling Dublin Live staff go through a lot of training to be prepared for situations like it.

She said: “We wish this customer well in his recovery. Cabin crew at Ryanair receive 6 weeks Safety, Security, First Aid and Customer Service training before becoming qualified Cabin Crew.

"Crew complete practical elements of training including Safety and Emergency procedures which equip them to deal well with situations like this one.”
