Quick thinking prison officers save inmate after incident at Forest Bank

Prisoner officers saved the life of an inmate at Forest Bank jail at the weekend.

An investigation has been launched into the incident at the prison in Agecroft, Salford.

Staff were alerted after the prisoner was found on A2 wing in his cell.

Matt Spencer, Director at HMP Forest Bank, said: “I can confirm an incident occurred on Saturday, 3 October, with the quick actions of our staff undoubtedly saving the life of a prisoner. While an investigation is underway it would be inappropriate to comment further.”

The Category B prison has capacity for 1,460 prisoners and is run by Sodexo Justice Services.

Last month the M.E.N reported how fishing lines are being used to deliver drugs to inmates at the prison.

Contraband items have been thrown into the grounds of Forest and collected by prisoners, police have said.

This comes after the latest figures reveal drugs were found at Forest Bank 654 times last year – the third highest of any prison in England and Wales.

In May a blaze was started in a cell at the prison but put out quickly and no one was injured.

The incident on May 19th was referred to police, prison bosses said.
