Quick-thinking marshals and medics save life of park runner who suffered cardiac arrest

Quick-thinking medics and marshals saved the life of a runner who suffered a cardiac arrest during a Dublin park run last weekend.

Volunteers sprung into action after the man was taken ill in Bushy Park on Saturday, April 6.

An AED defibrillator was used on the runner, who is now said to be making a good recovery.

Dublin set for ice-cream invasion as council plans to introduce new fleet of vans to occupy popular spot

The news was shared by the organisers of the Tymon Parkrun.

They said: "As some of you may now know, there was a medical emergency during last Saturday’s Bushy Dublin parkrun, when one of the participants sustained a cardiac arrest.

"The patient is now conscious, and recovering and we all wish Patrick a full and speedy recovery.

"In this instance the marshals conducted their role perfectly, and there was assistance by medical personnel who had use of the on site AED (defibrillator)."

The Tymon Parkrun have decided to fundraise for an AED of their own following the serious incident.

The group added: "Due to the seriousness of this event the team here at Tymon would like to make a once off appeal to our participants, for donations towards the purchase of our own AED.

"This is the only time we will ask for donations in this fashion and we don’t expect to have to do so again."
