Quick-thinking man rescues terrified puppy 'thrown into canal to die' in Dublin

An adorable puppy who was heartlessly thrown into a Dublin canal was rescued thanks to one man's quick-thinking.

The man was out fishing when he spotted someone throw a large black sack into the water.

Realising something was awry, he fished it out with a net only to find a 10-12 week old Lurcher puppy inside the bag.

The kind-hearted man took the puppy, now named River, home and kept him safe for a few days before bringing him to the DSPCA.

Poor River had pressure sores on his back legs from lying on hard surfaces.

Thankfully the cute pooch is being looked after by experts at the animal charity and is getting "lots of care, cuddles and soft blankets".

A spokesperson for the DSPCA said on Facebook: "[The pressure sores] will heal over the next few weeks with soft bedding. His big brown eyes would just melt your heart.

"To think that he was thrown into a canal to die is just not worth thinking about and is completely heartbreaking. River is doing well and getting lots of care, cuddles and soft blankets, a far cry from what was in store for him."
