Police chiefs have praised the 'outstanding' bravery of a young officer who plucked a man to safety from open water in Bolton last night.
The PC made the rescue following a report concerning the welfare of the man close to Bradshaw Brow, where there is a fast-flowing brook, at 9.05pm yesterday (Monday, January 10).
She jumped into the water and pulled the man clear.
After dragging him from the water, the officer was taken to hospital as a precaution and released a short time later.
Greater Manchester Police say 'necessary support' is being offered to the man through 'relevant partner agencies'.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Rollinson, of GMP's Bolton district, praised the officer in question for her bravery.
"This was outstanding action from one of our officers who did not hesitate to get in the water and help the man to safety regardless of how cold and deep it was," he said.
"I've spoken to the officer today to praise her for her efforts and it goes to show, once again, the bravery and dedication our officers show on a daily basis to serve and protect the public - and we will always continue to do so."
