Quick-thinking employee saves day after armed robber storms Donegal Post Office

Gardaí have arrested a man in his early 60s in connection with the attempted armed robbery of a post office in Donegal.

The incident occurred on November 11 in Clonmany, shortly after 5pm.

The armed man entered Clonmany Post Office and produced what was believed to be a handgun.

After demanding money, a quick-thinking post office employee retreated into a back room where they managed to raise the alarm.

Gardaí responded immediately to the panic alarm being raised but the robber had fled the scene.

A man in his 60s was arrested over a week later in connection with the incident.

Gardai confirmed that nothing was stolen and nobody was injured in the incident.

A Garda spokesperson said: "At 5.30pm on Tuesday, November 24, a man was arrested at an Operation Fanacht checkpoint in Bridgend, Co. Donegal in connection with this incident."

An Garda Síochána has been working closely with the PSNI in relation to this incident and they are also assisting with this investigation.

The man is currently detained at Buncrana Garda Station under Section 30 Offences Against The State Act.
