Queues out the door at new Bird's Bakery in West Bridgford on opening day

There were queues out of the door at the new Bird's Bakery which opened for the first time at its new West Bridgford store.

It was the grand opening of the bakery on Melton Road today, Saturday, March 13.

It is the second Bird's Bakery in West Bridgford, with another store located on Central Avenue.

“We are delighted to be opening our latest store in the popular location of West Bridgford,” said Mike Holling, Birds' sales and marketing director.

“This will be our second store in the area, with our first store on Central Avenue being incredibly popular since opening in 1984.

“Melton Road is the perfect location for us, surrounded by local shops. It will attract local residents passing by, as well as those travelling to and from Edwalton and surrounding areas with car parking on site.”

Mr Holling added: “We are committed to investing in our stores and despite the current circumstances, we have seen a positive reaction to our take-away offering, showing that people are still looking for sweet treats and feel-good food.”

Fourteen new jobs have been created as a result of the opening, which has seating for 28 customers and a purpose-built hot serving counter showcasing the bakery’s ‘food to go’ offering.

The new branch is the company's 62nd across the East Midlands.

Opening hours are from 8am-5pm Monday to Saturday.
