Queues for vaccine bus in Nottingham city centre

Long queues could be seen for the vaccine bus in Nottingham city centre on Saturday (December 18).

It comes as new vaccination centres are being opened for walk-in appointments, as the government continues its push for anyone who is eligible to get their booster jab.

The bus was parked in Long Row Off Old Market Square.

Patrick Kelly, a 20-year-old student at Nottingham Trent University, was among those in the queue waiting to get jabbed.

He said: "It was a spontaneous decision. I thought it would be good to get the booster and I was in town anyway. Hopefully it will give me some piece of mind over the next few months"

It was confirmed on Friday that three new Covid vaccination sites are set to open and will offer walk-in appointments for booster jabs.

The Richard Herrod Leisure Centre, Gedling, Victoria Health Centre, Glasshouse Street and Newark Showground will all become available as vaccine booster sites from Monday, December 20.

Existing appointment-only vaccination sites have also increased their slots by thousands to allow people to get their jabs as soon as possible over the next three weeks.

These sites include dozens of community pharmacies in local neighbourhoods, hospital hubs at the Queen’s Medical Centre and King’s Mill Hospital as well as hubs at the Forest Recreation Ground in Nottingham and in Chesterfield Road in Mansfield.

Rates across Nottinghamshire continue to rise in line with the rest of the country amid a surge in the Omicron strain.

A surveillance report, released by Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire County Council, shows the current situation across the county, including the latest rates, cases and data.

They show that case numbers have risen rapidly to such an extent that the infection rate in the city is the highest it has been in the past five months.
