Queues for reopened Starbucks in Leeds cause traffic chaos

Queues for a newly re-opened Starbucks branch in Leeds are causing chaos with huge queues of people waiting to get their coffee fix.

The coffee chain re-opened 150 of its stores for takeaway only on Thursday, May 14 including one on Kirstall Road in Leeds.

Pictures captured yesterday afternoon, May 15, show huge queues of cars lining the road waiting to go through the drive thru.

Some people have branded it a "safety hazard" and have urged the chain to put some form or order or rules in place while queuing.

The long queues are blocking the access to food stores and also causing gridlock traffic on the A65.

The branches that have been reopened will only provide customers with a takeaway-only service after closing all branches in March following advice from the government.

Starbucks has followed in the footsteps of a number of other fast-food chains that have reopened their drive-thru sites to customers in recent weeks, including KFC and Burger King.

Bosses have said that staff are following safety measures including regular hand washing, social distancing and contactless card payments.

Some locals have ridiculed those waiting in queues with one saying: "Queueing for Starbucks, Leeds - it is a coffee for goodness sake."
