A supermarket in the heart of Stapleford will close its doors for the final time this weekend, it has been confirmed.
Dozens of shoppers were queuing to get into Farmfoods, in Derby Road, from 6am today, Sunday April 14, as the store is offering 50 percent off all its products.
The shop has been in the street for more than 30 years and people living in the town have spoken of their sadness at the closure.
Richard MacRae, chairman of the Stapleford Community Group, said: "It is part of the community. It is like a post office, it is a proper community site, which is brilliant.
"It is very sad because it is not just a shop that is closing, it is part of the community we are losing.
"Hopefully it is not empty for too long because it is in a prime location."
Mr MacRae's wife, Donna, added: "We go nearly everyday for bread and milk and other things so it is really sad.
"I am going to have to shop elsewhere and that will cost me more, which is the downside."
Farmfoods has more than 300 shops nationwide and people in Stapleford are being told their nearest stores are now in Ilkeston or Long Eaton.
