Questions and anger after yobs trash Aintree racecourse days before Grand National

Fans have expressed their concern after vandals  broke in and trashed Aintree racecourse on Saturday morning.

Yobs used a vehicle to smash through a gate at the racecourse at around 6.45am on Saturday morning.

It is believed a vehicle was driven onto the racetrack. Part of a white perimeter fences was  snapped off.

Shocking pictures shows appalling damage, with deep tyre marks wedged in the famous turf.

Now ECHO readers have raised anger and concerns about the incident.  Irene Riley  said: "Where was security?" Ellen King said: "Surely they will have CCTV disgusting x"

Fiona Reid said: "Hope ladies day isn't ruined xx"

On Saturday organisers confirmed to the ECHO that the Grand National event is set to go ahead.

A spokesman said: "We are working closely with the police on this matter. This certainly won’t affect a fantastic three days in Liverpool’s sporting and social calendar.”

Organisers have been working around-the-clock for months ahead of the event at the world famous course at the 250 acre site in Aintree.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: "We are appealing for information following an incident of criminal damage at Aintree Racecourse, Ormskirk Road, Aintree reported this morning, Saturday 30 March. 

"At 6.45am, it was reported that damage had been found to a perimeter gate and on the course. It is not believed that anything was stolen and no injuries were caused. 

"It is initially believed that the damage was a caused by a car driven onto the site.

"Extensive CCTV and witness enquiries are ongoing, working closely alongside the course owners."
