Quentin Tarantino wins best original screenplay Oscar for Django Unchained

Quentin Tarantino completed a clean sweep of the major awards by walking off with the best original screenplay Oscar for Django Unchained at the 85th Academy Awards in LA, following his triumphs in the same categories at the Golden Globes and Baftas.

Django Unchained, Tarantino's eighth feature film, is an epic spaghetti western set in the slavery years in the deep South, with Jamie Foxx as a one-time slave aiming to rescue his wife from a plantation owned by a violent slave-owner.

The win is no doubt a bittersweet one: compensation, perhaps, for the fact that Tarantino failed to gain a best director Oscar nomination, along with Ben Affleck, Kathryn Bigelow and Tom Hooper. Tarantino has won this award before, in 1995 for Pulp Fiction, and was nominated in 2010 for Inglourious Basterds.
