Quentin Tarantino is reportedly developing a sequel to his hit film Django Unchained.
The director, whose next feature Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood will be released in August, is said to be adapting a Django comic book miniseries he wrote that shows what the character got up to years after events seen in the 2012 film.
It sees Jamie Foxx’s title character safely settling his wife Broomhilda in Chicago and taking up jobs to help fund her life. On his travels, though, he meets Zorro (yes, the same character played by Antonio Banderas) and the pair team up after Django becomes his bodyguard. It’s titled Django/Zorro.
According to Collider, stand-up comedian Jerrod Carmichael will write the big-screen version of the comic mini series with Tarantino on producing duties.
This project has been rumoured for years. In the 2014 Sony hack, Tarantino was revealed to have brought the idea to Amy Pascal in leaked emails.
Should Tarantino decide to direct the crossover sequel, it could be his final film. He’s stated for years that his tenth feature will be his last. Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood will mark the filmmaker’s ninth.
It’s unknown whether Foxx and Broomhilda star Kerry Washington would reprise their roles for the adaptation.
Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood will be released in the UK on 14 August. It received a seven-minute standing ovation following its premiere at the Cannes film Festival last month.
Lead stars Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie were all present as was he director himself whose second film, Pulp Fiction, won the coveted Palme d’Or 25 years earlier.
