‘Queer Eye’ star Karamo Brown’s daytime talk show to launch nationwide this fall

Karamo Brown is bringing his “Queer Eye” to daytime.

The star of Netflix’s nine-time Emmy Award-winning reality series will host a new daytime talk show launching nationwide this fall.

NBCUniversal announced Wednesday that “Karamo” has been sold in 90% of the U.S. and will air in markets such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Boston, Miami, Orlando and Cleveland.

The daily, one-hour talk show will feature the trailblazing TV personality tackling topics including race, parenting, infidelity and complicated family dynamics.

According to producers of the series, a studio audience is an integral part of the show – much like other shows in its stable, most notably “The Jerry Springer Show” and “The Steve Wilkos Show.”

“Karamo” will be produced out of the same Stamford, Connecticut, studio as the other daytime staples, and the recently canceled “Maury.”

It’s a perfect fit for Brown, who has guest-hosted “Maury” many times over its past two seasons.

“Karamo is a true fan of the genre who will bring that passion, along with his unique skill set and life experiences to guide his guests through life’s dramatic crossroads and build a lasting connection with the daytime audience,” NBCUniversal Syndication Studios & E! News executive vice president Tracie Wilson said in a statement. “‘Karamo’ is the next generation of compelling relationship-based talk, with a truly special host and we are so happy to offer this show to our station partners across the country.”

Brown broke into the zeitgeist during the mid-aughts as the first Black openly gay star of reality television (MTV’s “The Real World”). Since then, the former London Hotel front desk attendant has become a bestselling author, actor, producer and LGTBQ+ activist.

The 41-year-old father of two – who previously said he was up for becoming the first gay star of “The Bachelor” – recently commandeered E!’s fashion coverage of the 64th Annual Grammy Awards.

“Growing up, hosting a daytime talk show seemed unrealistic and unattainable, but it was my dream. I used to run home from school as a kid to watch this genre’s icons Sally, Donahue and Maury,” the Houston native said in Wednesday’s announcement. “My biggest goal is to help, and connect with, people from all walks of life. As a black, gay man of first-generation immigrants, opportunities for my goals seemed impossible so I want to thank everyone involved for believing in me and trusting me to explore all the highs and lows of life and celebrate with their audiences. We are all taking this journey together, so let’s start talking and growing.”

Brown is the latest African American celebrity with a daytime series announced for the upcoming fall season. Oscar, Grammy and Emmy Award-winning “American Idol” star Jennifer Hudson and Emmy Award-winning funnywoman Sherri Shepherd will also front talk shows in national syndication.
