Queer Eye star Jonathan Van Ness reveals he is HIV positive

One of the stars of Netflix makeover program Queer Eye has revealed he is HIV positive.

Jonathan Van Ness is famous across the world for his role in the "Fab Five" where he helps clueless people get their mojo back.

In an interview with the New York Times the 32-year-old revealed that he was diagnosed when he fainted while working as a hairdresser seven years ago.

He wrote in his new book Over The Top: "That day was just as devastating as you would think it would be."

Like former Wales captain Gareth Thomas, who last week revealed he also had HIV, Johnathon is healthy and not affected day to day by the virus.

He described himself as an out-and-proud “member of the beautiful HIV -positive community.”

When asked why he has chosen now to reveal the condition, Johnathon said it was to help fight stigmatisation of LGBT people from the Trump administration.

“When ‘Queer Eye’ came out, it was really difficult because I was like, ‘Do I want to talk about my status?,” he said. “And then I was like, ‘The Trump administration has done everything they can do to have the stigmatization of the L.G.B.T. community thrive around me. I do feel the need to talk about this."
