Queer Eye's Jonathan Van Ness slams 'transphobic' critics

Queer Eye host Jonathan Van Ness has hit back at critics who chided his choice of attire at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards.

Van Ness — who is the "grooming expert" on the TV program — donned a sheer, Maison Margiela beaded gown with a dramatic thigh split on the red carpet, before the program was awarded three Creative Emmys.

The general consensus in the comments section of a post he shared on Instagram from the event was that he "owned" the red carpet.

But one negative comment on a photo posted by his date, Wilco Froneman, caught the attention of the beloved star of the show.

"The guy in the dress" resembled "the villain in despicable me 3," a private Instagram user with a heavily filtered profile image, wrote.

Van Ness responded: "I look f**king stunning and my name is Jonathan, snap chat filter using on your tiny circle private profile having self."

When the fiery interaction got picked up by a popular celebrity gossip account, Van Ness took his discourse one step further by adding, "Also, I love all these transphobic comments in here. 'The guy in a dress' is insulting and anyone that doesn't see the implications is blind. F**ing [rude] people. I'm too tired."

Online trolls did not rain too much on Queer Eye's Emmys parade though, with the cast taking home the award for Outstanding Structured Reality Program.

It also won Outstanding Picture Editing for a Structured or Competition Reality Program and Outstanding Casting for a Reality Program.

The new Queer Eye has been praised for its representation of genderfluidity and its ability to expand conversations about race, religion and sexuality.
