A Queensland woman who went missing in regional South Australia for a week was on her "last legs" heading towards a farmhouse when she was found.

Julie Schutt was last seen on May 7, in Streaky Bay, after travelling to the town with her husband on holiday.

Yesterday, SA Police said Ms Schutt, was found north-west of Streaky Bay and was "currently receiving medical treatment".

Police received a call just after 8am on Sunday from a member of the public who said they had found a person "wandering out of the scrub" asking for water.

Her brother Todd told ABC Radio Adelaide's Nikolai and Stacey his 48-year-old sister was heading towards a homestead when she was found.

"She saw a farmhouse and she was heading towards it and a couple of local people saw her walking towards the homestead," he said.

"She was on her last legs and she was just looking for some water."

He said Ms Schutt had become lost and spent six days wandering around with no food or drink.

"As far as I know she went for a walk and got lost and disorientated and couldn't find her way back," he said.

"She was in the sand dunes area, which is heavily scrubbed … it was a long six days for her.

"She says she hasn't eaten or had a drink for the last six days, obviously it was very cold for her, not ideal conditions to be out there."

Julie's husband, Clifford, yesterday said she was in "surprisingly, really good health" given the circumstances.

Todd said his sister was still in hospital recovering and was severely dehydrated.

"She hopefully had a good sleep last night and is recovering," he said.

"We'll talk to doctors today and assess the situation and I'm sure we'll head back [to Queensland] as soon as she's able to.

"I'm sure there's lots of friends and family that want to see her too."

Police had repeatedly appealed for public assistance as they searched Streaky Bay and the surrounding areas last week.

On Thursday afternoon, police confirmed the search had been scaled back, but would continue "over the following days using local police and volunteers".

Ms Schutt's family thanked everyone for their help in finding her yesterday.

"Cliff gave me a call, I was already out on the road searching, it was just amazing, such a relief, we're all just grateful she's safe and sound," her brother said today.
