A Queensland police officer has been struck by a stolen car on Brisbane's southside.

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) said Constable Luke Zannier, 40, was conducting speed checks on Orange Grove Road at Salisbury shortly before 6:30am when he attempted to intercept a car by walking onto the road.

The car was then driven directly at the officer.

He sustained arm and back injuries and was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition.

The driver fled in the car and it was later found abandoned on Eaton Place at Wishart.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen a white Mercedes sedan in the Wishart area between 6:40am and 6:50am to come forward.

The forensic crash unit is investigating.

Queensland Police Union regional representative Shane Prior said the incident could have easily resulted in the murder of a police officer.

"Make no mistake about it, what we saw today are offenders becoming more brazen and desperate — desperate to flee responsibilities for their crimes, and attempting to murder a fine serving police officer doing just that," Mr Prior said.

Mr Prior said joined QPS Metro South representative Shayne Treasure and Constable Zannier's wife at his bedside on Wednesday morning.

"I'm appalled that a man who cares so much about his community, we nearly lost today.

"Very fortunately, Luke has minor injuries on initial assessment, but those assessments are still continuing."

Constable Zannier has about 15 years' experience as a police officer.

Acting Detective Inspector Mick Manango appealed to the occupants of the vehicle to turn themselves in.

"We know who you are. Do the right thing and surrender to police."
