Queensland police fatally shoot man in Townsville

Police have fatally shot a man in north Queensland.

Officers were called to Bel Air Avenue in the Townsville suburb of Kirwan at 4:40pm on Friday in response to reports of a disturbance.

In a statement, Queensland Police said the man was armed and advancing towards officers about 4:55pm when he was shot. 

First aid and CPR was provided, however the 52-year-old died at the scene.

A crime scene was declared and police investigations are continuing.

Circumstances surrounding the incident will be investigated by the Ethical Standards Command on behalf of the state coroner, and the investigation is subject to oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
