Queensland police discover man hiding in base of woman's bed, charged with domestic violence offences

Queensland detectives have charged a man with domestic violence offences after they found him hiding inside the base of a bed at a woman's home in Ipswich, south-west of Brisbane.

Police allege the 33-year-old man forced his way into the home on Tuesday, strangling and seriously assaulting a woman before fleeing, triggering a man hunt.

Authorities said the woman and her children were taken to a safe place and an investigation was launched.

Police said detectives returned to the woman's house after locating the man's car several blocks from the woman's address.

Specialist police searched the property and discovered the man concealed inside the base of the woman's bed.

Police said the family had not returned to the home since the investigation was launched.

The 33-year-old has been charged with nine domestic violence offences, including contravening a domestic violence order, deprivation of liberty, strangulation and choking, unlawful stalking and entering a dwelling with intent.

The man was denied bail and remanded in custody.

He is due to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court later today.
