Queensland non-committal on zero emissions

Queensland is focused on its 2030 emissions target, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says. (AAP)

Queensland remains non-committal about a net zero emissions target by 2050.

The sunshine state's 2020/21 budget revealed on Tuesday highlights a previous commitment to reach a 50 per cent renewable energy target by 2030, but Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk would not look further ahead.

"I'm actually focused on our 50 per cent renewable energy target," she said, stating Qld had already reached 20 per cent.

NSW has laid out plans for zero net emissions by 2050, putting pressure on its northern neighbour.

The budget papers state Queensland's renewable energy generator CleanCo has a mandate to deliver 1,000 MW of energy in Queensland by 2025.

In March CleanCo announced it would build, own and operate the 102.6 MW Karara Wind Farm south of Toowoomba.

Ms Palazsczuk said the government would produce a climate action plan and called on the federal government to step up to the plate in relation to emissions targets.
