Police are hunting thugs responsible for a violent attack which left a 24-year-old man in hospital.

Officers taped off Queensferry Street Lane earlier today after the victim was assaulted there at around 3am this morning (Friday).

The attack left the man with injuries to his chest and face, and he was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment as a result.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Enquiries are ongoing to trace those responsible and anyone with information is asked to come forward by calling 101 and quoting incident number 416 of 21 June."
