Queensferry High School demolition: teen captures incredible timelapse video as school is torn down

A teenager from Edinburgh captured incredible footage of the demolition of the old Queensferry High School recently - as diggers moved in to tear down the structure.

14-year-old Isla Macrae used a timelapse to capture workers demolishing the old school building after a new school was handed over this year.

The City of Edinburgh Council was handed the key to the new Queensferry High School at the beginning of August.

Isla's camera filmed a yellow JCB tearing down parts of the old school building.

After posting it on social media the video was watched over 2000 times.

One user noticed how she even caught the builders have their tea break at the end.

James wrote: "Great work - even captured the tea break at the end."

The demolition works were carried out by Lothians firm Central Demolition, and the old building will be torn down to make way for possible future developments.

The opening of the new school came as pupils returned to class following the coronavirus crisis.

The new building, which cost £40 million, includes expanded sports facilities such as a six lane swimming pool.

Speaking about the new school, councillor Ian Perry, convener for education, children and families at the City of Edinburgh Council, said: “It will provide high quality, modern facilities for pupils and teaching staff, and features a low carbon design which will deliver energy efficiencies. The school will also provide much-needed community facilities and many of the areas will be easily accessible to the public.

“This is the latest successful partnership with hub South East Scotland and the Scottish Government’s Schools for the Future programme.
