Queensferry Crossing closed due to 'falling ice' after snow hits Scotland

The Queensferry Crossing is closed to traffic due to a risk of falling ice after 'severe overnight weather '.

The bridge was shut off in both directions on the M90 due to the unsafe conditions at 03:06am this morning.

Drivers now face a 36-mile diversion via the A985 Kincardine Bridge.

Bear Scotland has told motorists the Forth Road Bridge “should not be used as a diversion”.

Traffic Scotland tweeted: "The Queensferry crossing is closed in both directions on the M90 due to a risk of falling ice.

"A diversion is running via the Kincardine Bridge. Plan ahead and take care."

It comes after ' blizzard conditions ' forced the Met Office to issue an amber weather warning for Scotland till midnight tonight.

Forecaster predicted 12 inches of snow to fall along with strong winds in the East and Southern regions of Scotland.
