Queens Trust launch fundraising drive in bid to own 1,000 shares in Queen of the South

A supporters group has launched a fundraising drive with the aim of owning 1,000 shares in Queen of the South.

The Queens Trust currently has 924 shares and is targeting the next 76 to “give supporters a voice”.

The trust is also the 18th largest shareholder in the Championship side.

A Justgiving page has been set up aiming to raise the £1,140 needed to buy the necessary shares.

The page states: “With this fundraiser we aim to help both the club and the trust by firstly offering the club the money raised in return for the shares that we are looking to purchase.

“All donations will be very gratefully received.

“Whether that’s the price of a half time ticket or a snack at the football, or the price of a pie, a pint, a programme or even a match day ticket.

“Please only donate what you can afford as we realise that this is a very difficult time for many.

“Thank you very much for your interest in our fundraising goal.”

The trust were vocal in the aftermath of George Galloway’s attendance at the Dundee match on Boxing Day calling for a more “inclusive and transparent” culture at the club.

Supporters were left furious after Mr Galloway was allowed to attend despite no fans being allowed due to lockdown measures.

The board responded: “We are aware of the statement issued by the trust.

“As we have always said in the past, we as directors are always available and willing to listen to supporters.

“We have previously invited members of the trust to meetings but the majority declined the invitation.

“We also put the option of having a trust member as a representative on the board to our shareholders at an AGM and it was unanimously voted against.

“We have nothing to hide and will always be transparent, therefore if the trust want to speak to us in person we are more than happy to arrange a meeting and they should get in touch with us directly.”
