Queens Of The Stone Age have shared a powerful message to mark Pride month, revealing that their name was “designed” to weed out homophobia.
The band shared a post on Instagram featuring several rainbow flags, urging fans to do something to celebrate Pride.
“Remember, it’s still Pride month! Do something wonderful for someone today! Something you’ll be proud of!!” they wrote.
“PS: Remember, the name QUEENS of the Stone Age was designed to weed certain people out.
“If you feel plucked like a weed by this fact, then it’s because you are plucked. Now, go, run along and pluck yourself.”
This isn’t the first time the band have spoken out against homophobia.
Back in 2017, frontman Josh Homme told NME: “I think I’ve always been trying to prune our audience [of] racist, homophobic, misogynistic a*******.
“The idea is to have our audience be an open-minded group of individuals.”
Last year, Homme also told the Brisbane Times: "My brother Jason is gay, and at an early age I grew a dislike for bullies.
"Jason is two years older than me but I am bigger and always took on a protective role. I got my a** kicked a number of times and I was always proud to do it when it was in defence of our family name."
