Queens boss taking it one game at a time ahead of tonight's match against Raith Rovers

Allan Johnston insists tonight’s match with Raith Rovers isn’t a must win game.

The Queen of the South manager said the Doonhamers’ destiny was still in their hands but didn’t place any added emphasis on this match ahead of the four remaining fixtures.

AJ said: “Tonight isn’t must win, there’s games left. You know how tight this league is, it’s incredible there’s no guaranteed results anywhere.

“It’s one game at a time and we’re going to try and win every game. We’re at home, we know Raith Rovers well. I watched them the other week and they were excellent.

“They’ve got top quality players so we’re going to have to be at the top of our game to get a result.”

He added: “We want to try and get in the top four. We’re in contention with a handful of games left and that’s where we want to be. Hopefully we can get ourselves in those places. There’s a lot of teams vying for those places but we’re playing all of those teams.”

The manager spoke after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Inverness as the season heads towards a fast and furious finish.

However, he was left frustrated with the way his side were pulled level so soon after scoring through Aidan Fitzpatrick.

AJ said: “It was quite an evenly matched game. There wasn’t much between the two teams.

“Their keeper had a couple of saves first half. We go ahead with an unbelievable goal from Aidan. A great individual goal which should be enough to win the game. But it’s really frustrating we lost a cheap goal only a matter of minutes after that.

“Fitzy’s been training really well. He deserved his opportunity. He’s come in and done really well again. Delighted for him.

“He’s shown the quality he has and will do his confidence the power
of good.”

Goalscorer Fitzpatrick said: “I’ve been training hard so I’ve been ready to take my chance when I’ve been called on.

“But it was a sore one to lose that goal as early as we did but we’re looking forward to Tuesday night.”
