Queen, William and Kate Middleton send birthday wishes to Harry and Meghan's son Archie

The Queen and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have sent birthday wishes to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's son Archie.

The youngster is celebrating his third birthday today in California and his royal relatives took to social media to publicly send their best wishes.

On the official Royal Family Twitter account, a picture of Archie as a newborn with his parents and grandmother Doria Ragland meeting the Queen and the late Prince Philip was posted.

It was accompanied by the message: "Wishing Archie Mountbatten-Windsor a very happy 3rd Birthday!" It also featured a birthday cake emoji.

Meanwhile, William and Kate opted to share a family photo taken at Archie's christening, which also features Prince Charles, Camilla and two of the late Princess Diana's sisters. They also shared the same photo on Archie's birthday last year.

Their message read: "Wishing Archie a very happy 3rd Birthday today" followed by a birthday cake and balloon emojis.

When it came to Archie's grandfather Charles, his Clarence House Twitter account shared the same picture posted by the Queen's account.

His message to his grandson read: "Happy Birthday Archie!"

None of Archie's royal relatives have seen the birthday boy since his parents quit as senior working royals to start a new life in California.

Last month, Meghan and Harry had a secret meeting with the Queen at Windsor Castle while they were en-route to the Invictus Games in The Hague.

And during that visit, the Mirror revealed the couple told the Queen she will get to see her great-grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet, “in the near future”.

The Queen has suffered a catalogue of health issues in recent months.

As well as an overnight hospital stay for an unexplained condition, she suffered from Covid in February and has had worsening mobility issues.

A source close to the Sussexes said: “Both the Duke and Duchess are very mindful the Queen is getting older and has had health issues associated with her great age.

“They have made it clear they are certainly planning to return to see the Queen with their family in the near future.”

Harry has been in sporadic contact with his grandmother and father Charles and is understood to have had “virtually no contact” with brother William.

Despite the reunion, the family is said to be “increasingly nervous” about the contents of Harry’s planned memoir, which is due out this autumn.

Another source said: “The reunion is good news, but there is still much trepidation about how far Harry will go in his memoir which could completely undo everything. If Harry was to start mudslinging again there would be absolutely no chance of a reconciliation. Whether Harry or Meghan can be truly trusted remains to be seen.”
