Queen will not attend traditional Easter Sunday service

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the Queen will not be attending the Royal Family's traditional Easter Sunday service this year. Members of the family will be at the Easter Mattins Service at St George's Chapel, Windsor, but Her Majesty will not be with them as usual.

She has been dealing with mobility issues recently and had to pull out of today's Royal Maundy Service, which is also being held at St George's Chapel. The service, which normally sees the Queen give out Maundy money to pensioners, will instead be carried out by Prince Charles, accompanied by Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, reports the MEN.

The Queen was said to be "regretfully unable to commit" to being at today's annual event. The Queen will turn 96 next week and palace aides have admitted in recent weeks that she has 'good days and less good days' in terms of being able to get about.

She has been forced to cut back on engagements since being hospitalised for a night last October for an unspecified illness, and then being told by her doctors to rest.
