Queen to take quiet trip to Scotland after death of Prince Philip

The Queen is reported to be planning to travel to Balmoral in Scotland later this month following the death of her husband, Prince Philip.

The Queen would normally not visit her estate until the summer - heading to Balmoral in July most years.

But this year she will spend some time in relative solitude in a house on the Balmoral Castle estate.

According to the Mail, the Queen will stay at the seven-bedroom Craigowen Lodge on the estate with a small staff, possibly being kept company at times by her niece Lady Sarah Chatto.

Queen Victoria retreated to Balmoral during her reign after the death of Prince Albert.

Writing in The Mail Emma Cowing said: "The time at Balmoral will be a period of quiet reflection, punctuated by the same sense of faithful routine she has kept to for almost a century."

The Queen would normally visit Balmoral in July, staying in the Lodge until July then in the castle until September or October.
