The Queen is set to make a decision about her Christmas celebrations in the next 48 hours.
She may have to alter or cancel her plans as Covid rates surge and tougher restrictions may be imposed. She is awaiting advice from her senior aides who are in regular contact with government officials.
It is understood Her Majesty is determined to celebrate the festive season with her family at Sandringham.
The monarch, 95, who has suffered ill health recently, is due to fly by helicopter to the estate in Norfolk on Wednesday, rather than travelling by train as she has in previous years.

A source said: “The Queen and the rest of the family are mindful the situation is ever changing and many thousands of families may also be affected.
“A decision on whether the Queen travels as planned will be made as soon as possible.
"If alternative arrangements need to be made, right up to the last minute as per government advice, Her Majesty will lead from the front.”
An alternative being examined is for the Queen and Royal Family to spend Christmas at Windsor Castle, where she has been for most of the pandemic.

Buckingham Palace last night said her plans are still under discussion.
The Queen has already cancelled a Christmas party at Windsor Castle for her extended family due to Covid concerns.

As huge parts of the UK were in lockdown in 2020, Her Majesty had to spend last Christmas away from loved ones except Prince Philip, who then died aged 99 in April.
In her Christmas broadcast, Her Majesty is expected to herald the indomitable spirit of the British people.
A source said: “The Queen believes we are all in this together and we should all abide by the public health guidelines to keep each other safe.”
