Queen thanks healthcare workers for 'selfless commitment' amid 'testing times' posed by coronavirus outbreak

The Queen has thanked healthcare workers in a touching message of support issued during "testing times".

She shared the message in a moving video, posted by the Royal Family on Twitter to mark World Health Day, as the workers she thanks face the increasing pressures of the coronavirus outbreak.

“On the occasion of World Health Day, I want to thank all those in the healthcare profession for your selfless commitment and diligence as you undertake vitally important roles to protect and improve the health and well-being of people across the Commonwealth, and across the world," she said in a statement

“In testing times, we often observe that the best of the human spirit comes to the fore; the dedication to service of countless nurses, midwives and other health workers, in these most challenging of circumstances, is an example to us all.

“My family and I send our enduring appreciation and good wishes.”

It comes just days after she issued a historic speech to the nation in regards to the coronavirus crisis.

On Sunday evening, the Queen's rallying call was broadcast with nearly 24 million people tuning in.

She spoke as the UK and many other nations across the world face lockdown measures in a bid to stem the spread of Covid-19.

The Queen said: “I also want to thank those of you who are staying at home, thereby helping to protect the vulnerable and sparing many families the pain already felt by those who have lost loved ones.

“Together we are tackling this disease, and I want to reassure you that if we remain united and resolute, then we will overcome it.”
