The Queen has been pictured standing unaided as she returned to work after missing Remembrance Sunday at the Cenotaph due to spraining her back.
Dressed in a green, orange and white floral dress and wearing a string of pearls, was pictured standing as she greeted and chatted to Gen Sir Nick in Windsor’s Oak Room.
The military audience came three days after the Queen missed the national Remembrance service at the Cenotaph due to a sprained back.
In footage released from the audience, Gen Sir Nick, who is stepping down from his role, is seen entering the room to be greeted first by the Queen’s inquisitive elderly dorgi Candy.
He peers down to look at Candy, who jumps back nervously when Gen Sir Nick starts to walk forward to meet the monarch.
Gen Sir Nick went on to discuss his time as military chief, telling the monarch he had been in the post for eight years.
The Queen said it was “rather sad” he was leaving and replied: “It’s a long time.”
Gen Sir Nick discussed the Duke of Edinburgh’s late uncle, saying: “It is a long time. In fact, the only person who has done longer I’m told is Lord Mountbatten … so I am quite surprised by all that.”
The Queen chuckled and replied: “Oh really? Oh?”
She added: “I suppose if you get into that job, you know, it is easier to continue, isn’t it really?”
Gen Sir Nick replied: “I think that’s right. Although I have to say I think the time comes when it’s ready to move on.”
Prior to meeting Gen Sir Nick, the Queen held another audience with the Commanding Officers of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards via video link, Buckingham Palace said.
