Queen's University Belfast promises traditional graduation after coronavirus threat passes

Queen's University students will still get a traditional graduation ceremony after June celebrations were postponed because of Covid-19.

Students will also have the option to attend a virtual ceremony, and receive their degree parchment in summer.

In a statement, Queen's Students' Union said the university had confirmed remote graduations would not be a replacement for the formal ceremony.

They said: "We know that your graduation day is an incredibly significant one for many of you and that it is important that you receive the normal graduation experience you have worked towards over your time at university.

"When it's safe to come back together, you will then have the ceremony in which you get to wear your gown, walk across the stage, have photos taken and celebrate with friends and family."

Ulster University has also told students it is "actively considering" options to run graduations ceremonies after restrictions are lifted.
