Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham to open another ward for coronavirus admissions

The Queen's Medical Centre is to convert a trauma ward into an area for coronavirus admissions.

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust's trauma team said the ward would become the second one to convert to make way for covid-19 admissions.

It comes as eight more people died having tested positive for the virus, bringing the total number of deaths in the city's hospitals to 18 as of March 31.

There are now 318 confirmed cases across Nottinghamshire.

NUH's trauma team is also asking for donations of small potted plants or shrubs to help create an area where staff can relax as they are unable to leave the ward when working.

The team said: "We’re turning a second ward into a covid-19 admitting ward.

"We have a small balcony area which, if anyone has any plants or small potted shrubs to donate, we would love to make an area for our staff to relax as they cannot leave the ward during shifts."
