The Queen’s Guard delighted onlookers with a rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody outside Buckingham Palace.

The Band of the Grenadier Guards played the tune on Monday, hours after it was announced the drama Bohemian Rhapsody starring Rami Malek had taken two of the top awards at the Golden Globes.

The film follows the rise of the band and its lead singer Freddie Mercury.

One Twitter user posted a video of the performance with the caption: “Bohemian Rhapsody at Buckingham Palace today. So cool!”

Others replied with delight at the choice of song.

“I have a whole new respect for Her Majesty The Queen!!!” one said.

While another replied: “Buckingham palace has never been this cool!”

The Queen’s Guard have a history of nodding to popular culture or responding to current events.

In September last year, after the death of Aretha Franklin, they paid tribute by performing her hit R.E.S.P.E.C.T.

In 2014, they made headlines by playing the Game of Thrones theme song.
